| 内容記述 | The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of female nurses who gamble and why they chose to play pachinko. A questionnaire, answered by 624 female nurses and birth attendants, revealed that 19.6% of them gamble while 2.5% play pachinko. Four female nurses who played pachinko were interviewed and they explained that they play pachinko because it is thrilling, does not require communication with others, and provides them with an opportunity to escape reality. However, at the same time, their playing pachinko made them feel guilty in regards to their family and/or work. It was also found that some of their families triggered them to start playing pachinko or encouraged them not to indulge in playing too much. It was understood from these results that the subjects have dealt with work-related stress, including compassion fatigue brought on by the emotional labor by playing pachinko. The interviewees enjoyed pachinko simply as a pastime largely because their families accepted their pachinko playing. Their sense of guilt also motivated them to maintain a healthy social life. |
