内容記述 | The purpose of this study was to survey how the education of psychiatric mental health nursing including class and clinical practice influences on the nursing practice of graduates from the Japanese Red Cross College of Nursing. Three group interviews were conducted. The numbers of participants were thirteen; six psychiatric nurses, five medical nurses and two surgical nurses. The results were as follows: 1) The participants recognized that the idea which they had learnt at the college became the base of their practice. They found the idea such as "there are complicated emotions behind every patients' behaviors" or "every person can be mentally ill under the certain amount of stressor" quite useful for understanding patients. Their practice of caring was lead by the idea of 'being' rather than 'doing' and of taking care of one's own feelings. 2) The method of a process record and relaxation were used to restore themselves when they felt distressed. 3) Many participants were perplexed at the gap between what they had been taught at the college and what the reality demanded of them. They realized the efficiency and the safety were prior to patients' needs, doing to being and visible care to nurses' empathy in the actual world of clinical settings. And they thought that other nurses dared not understand the hidden meaning of patients' behavior. 4) Nonetheless they felt happy with what they had learnt at the college and became aware of the significance of their learning more deeply in their practice as a professional nurse. The results suggest that the gap between learning at the college and demand from the reality is not just reality shock, but it meant their deep concerns for the existing critical condition of nursing. And the idea and methods they got at the college provide them a useful tools and frame of reference to make them survive with better quality of practice. |
