| 内容記述 | The qualitative descriptive research design based on the Grounded Theory Approach of Saiki (Saiki, 2005) was conducted to elucidate the feelings of mothers toward weaning of twins and the methods of weaning. The participants were five mothers of twins weighing 2200 g or over without congenital anomaly or disease, over 35 weeks’ gestational age. Semi-structured interviews on weaning from the 3rd month after delivery were carried out when the mothers were 12 - 18 months postpartum, when their twins were in the weaning period. Mothers of twins of 3 months and older experienced “difficulty in weaning their twins” and conducted “mother-led weaning” with “concerns related to weaning”. Later, as the twins grew, their mothers came to “understand the characteristic of weaning to each baby” and “understand their growth” by “comparing the two” and their “concerns about baby feeding disappeared”, and changed to “baby-led weaning.” Mothers received “confirmation from others” throughout the weaning period and “unexpected encouragement from nursery schools” when the babies went to nursery school. They also had more “difficulty weaning their twins” when they conduced “mother-led weaning” and felt that “they could not wean their twins like a single baby.” During the “baby-led weaning” period, they were torn between the ideal of “continuing breastfeeding” and longing “to be free from breastfeeding” as a result of the stress of having twins. Health care and welfare professionals who have close contact with mothers should give them information on weaning of twins, as well as understand what mothers are feeling, in order to support continually them to find the weaning method that fits each of the twins without comparing them to single babies. |
