| 内容記述 | The purpose of this study was to investigate the desired nature of support system that responds to the health needs of Chinese students studying in Japan by analysing the patterns of their healthrelated behavior. Four Chinese students were interviewed using semi-structured technique. The results showed that physical problems were solved through various support systems, whereas mental health problems were not. The Chinese students had difficulty in accepting cultural difference and in communicating in Japanese language. In addition, inability to afford time and/or cost made it difficult for them to keep company with others, leaving them in isolation and loneliness. On the contrary, having had social experience in their country and managed to cope with mental stressors made them gain confidence in themselves. Holding dreams in the future and being supported by other foreign and Japanese students, family members, and volunteers, as well as getting assistance for school and/or medical expenses were also effective for them to be relieved of their mental stress. On the other hand, individual counseling has its limits in solving their problems because the Chinese students had strong prejudice against visiting a counseling room or reluctance to admit their own mental suffering. Nurses are expected to organize group counseling providing positive support for empowerment of each individual Chinese students. |
