内容記述 | The purpose of this study is to show how we understand thoughts and feelings of outpatients with recurrent breast cancer. Two outpatients with recurrent breast cancer were interviewed one by one, 3 to 4 times using a half structured interview. It has become clear that: 1) these two patients with recurrent breast cancer found hope by attempting to overcome the difficult situation that they are currently facing, focusing on their future and thus continuing to live, 2) they appreciate the importance of "ordinary life", which for most people is a usual thing, and have come to value it more, thus giving them greater energy to make a daily effort to live, 3) both patients felt two profound fears: fear of the disappearance of their existence and fear of the pain felt by relatives who would live to witness their death, and 4) special attention that a medical staff pays to their death might aggravate their loneliness and sense of alienation. It is also suggested that medical staff, when attempting to improve patients' care, should be conscious of that and have much better understanding of their experience. |
