内容記述 | The purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristics of healing in nursing. The study consisted of qualitative descriptive inductive research. Semi-structured interviews were held with six consenting nurses and midwives. Participants were asked to talk about their healing experiences while interacting with clients, and data analysis focused on context. The study received approval from the ethics review board of the Japanese Red Cross College of Nursing. The three characteristics of healing experienced by participants were as follows: 1) as caretakers, participants wanted to develop deep relationships and provide care, and their intentions were naturally accepted by clients to facilitate interpersonal exchanges; 2) while providing care to achieve objectives such as pain alleviation, participants experienced togetherness with clients; and 3) participants wanted to get close to clients, but at the same time realized that they could not get too close because of internal and external self-assessment. Such underlying conflict, however, eventually disappeared during the process of assisting clients with activities of daily living such as bathing, when they came into contact with clients' skin and were able to observe them in everyday situations. These experiences brought healing to the participants. Through these healing sensations, participants gained strength for providing care through positive images of the self coexisting with others. | |||||||
