内容記述 | The objective of the present study was to elucidate the experiences of nurses who provide helping art to support the daily life of patients in palliative care in general wards. Semi-structured interviews with a total of five nurses providing palliative care in general wards were conducted using a qualitative descriptive research design. The following results were obtained: 1. By interacting with patients, nurses gained an understanding of patients’ feelings; nurses were then able to provide various types of helping art based on this understanding. Helping art was provided through interactions between patients and nurses in palliative care. 2. Because nurses who provide helping art to support the daily life of patients in palliative care in general wards worked with patients for long periods of time, they became familiar with patients' particular illnesses and feelings toward life, deepening their relationships with patients. 3. Nurses provided helping art passively; for example, by preparing and watching patients' surroundings and giving bed baths when requested by the patient's family. This passive helping art was considered to be one of the important nursing methods. 4. Important types of helping art for support the daily life of patients in the home environment included devising and practicing methods of transfer that do not restrict daily activities and explaining treatments to the wife in a simple manner. In addition, nurses considered hospitalization to be "unnecessary" for patients, and provided helping art with the aim of enabling patients to return home. 5. Nurses provided helping art through "approaches related to the body"; in other words, interacting with the patient's feelings through physical contact. This form of helping art involving direct physical contact was a unique characteristic of nurses. |
