内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 The idea behind this research is to find out about the experience of nursing care workers' encounters with a hospital patient's suicide and how they dealt with it personally, and to clarify the process of the experience and the support that is required. By so doing it would be possible to get suggestions for helping the nursing care workers' recovery.
For this research, three nurses who had encountered a hospital patient's suicide more than two years earlier were interviewed. They speak in a way that would suggest symptoms of PTSD, saying,
for example, that the fright would still sometimes revisit them. They feel marginalized and isolated or alienated from responding to the incident. Later, the horror would become generalized, or they feel a sense of loss at the sudden parting with the patient. In addition, suffering from feelings of guilt they eventually become isolated from the other medical staff. They each try hard to overcome such psychological conditions in their own way.
It is clear that relations with others around them shape the implication of the event, patient's suicide, as a whole.
In the process of talking about the experience, the person learns that others have the same kind of experience and that the emotions that they feel are not unusual. This 'knowledge' allows that person to see the experience in a new light with objectivity. Thus, by reclaiming what happened, the problem of feeling isolated from one's surroundings works itself out. When the feelings of isolation dissolve, the thing that was causing the person to feel fixated and strangled gradually dissipates, and relationships with others that fell apart are restored, along with their own feelings and confidence.
